HURRAY: It is hard to believe we are completing our last week of second grade this week.  Thank you for supporting face to face instruction and helping make this year one to remember!  Summer is a time to recharge and relax but remember to continue your child’s reading routine to maintain all the good habits developed this year.  Summer writing journals can help create a book of fun summer memories or document new wonders your child learns.  Core 5, RAZ, IXL and MobyMax are available throughout the summer.

Thank You: I would like to thank you and your children for a wonderful year in second grade. Your children brightened each day with their love for learning, caring for one another, and being role models for others. They received many compliments throughout the year from other staff members and people in the community. Thank you for sending kind and caring young people to Lincoln School. I wish them the best as they move on to third grade. I will miss them very much.

LEAVING EARLY:   If your child will be ending the school year earlier than Friday please let us know.  It is incredibly helpful to know ahead of time if your child will not be in attendance on the last days of school.  Thank you

WORD WORK: This week our class will be learning about adding the prefix re- to words as in the words redo, recycle, and retrace.  Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the Unit 28 practice list for the week.

LIBRARY BOOKS: All library books, computers, chargers, computer sleeves, and other school owned items should be turned in. Thank you for helping your child collect these materials and tools.

Lincoln’s three second grade classes will be visiting the Silver Beach Carousel, touring historical sites on the bluff, and watching the Memorial Day Parade.  The trip will begin at 9:00 a.m. at the carousel and conclude after the parade at approximately 12:30 p.m.  Our second graders will ride the carousel twice for  $2.00.  Each student is asked to bring two dollars to cover the cost if possible.  Money is not due until the week of the trip.

Lunch will be at school during our normal 1:00 p.m. time.

**PARENTS ARE WELCOME to attend our field trip.  We ask no siblings to attend the carousel and bluff walk.  This is a special time for our second grade students to learn about our community.  Parents may meet us with siblings at the parade site.  We usually find seating in front of the War Memorials on the bluff side of the street.

**If you plan on chaperoning, volunteer forms must be on file and processed before the trip. Please allow at least a week for processing. You may pick up forms in the office or call the office (926-3700) to have forms sent home with your child.      Thank you

Thank you for the many ways you, your children, and our amazing PTO made us feel special during Teacher Appreciation Week and throughout the year.  The past few years have been difficult for us all with the extra health concerns, new and constantly changing procedures, and attempting to make the new normal…normal. What has not changed are the wonderful children that come to us each day, the supportive parents always asking how they can help, and everyone working together to provide the best education possible. Please know we are thankful for you each and every day and could not do what we do without you!

WORD WORK: This week our class will be learning about adding -ed and -ing endings to words.   Students should read their word lists, discuss the meaning of the words, and practice spelling words with similar syllable patterns.  Spelling City is ready for students to access the Unit 22 practice list for the week.

BOOK ORDER:  It’s a great time to stock up on books for summer.  I will be sending the paper fliers on Tuesday.   The order for Scholastic will be due on May 18th. Let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you!

Warm Weather Water Bottles:  This coming week promises to get warm.  Please help your child stay hydrated by sending in a water bottle each day. Please remember our drinking fountains are not accessible at this time.

DISINFECTANT WIPES: We are in our last month of school and greatly appreciate all the supplies you have sent in during the year.  Our class could use a few more containers of disinfectant wipes to get us through the home stretch.  Thank you for your contributions.

Lory’s Place Run, Walk, Rock:  The 17th annual Run, Walk, and Rock to support Lory’s Place is coming up on May 21st.   It is a fantastic family event that supports the services of Lory’s Place.  If you are not aware, Lory’s Place, named after a former Lincoln parent, is a wonderful grief center that is active in our school as well as 56 other schools in our area helping children who have had someone special in their life die.  You can register here
